Emergence.
It is strange that kids today seek to go back in time because of the appealing "simplicity" that past decades, even centuries seemingly offer. Progress is inevitable for populations. I find it hard to believe that Generation Y could actually survive in the 1400s without their iPhones, reality TV shows, cars, etc. Aside from the "simplicity" of the almost non-existant government, there is nothing in particular that I could see today's faux-anarchist hipsters enjoying. The world was primitive, but not primitive enough to discredit change: the fact that time goes by and life advances; nor naive enough to settle with the minimum. It is human nature to constantly move on. Unless of course, today's re-born hippies find themselves to be too earthy and jaded for the technology they survive on and instead choose the more posh lifestyle of hunting and gathering or dying from the bubonic plague and the common cold. Reminiscing of a time we didn't even exist during is so in right now.
